Assembly District Election Meetings (ADEMS) elections are the process by which 14 delegates to the California Democratic Party (CDP) are selected to represent each Assembly District and elected in January of the odd numbered year.
7 "self-identified female” and 7 “other than self-identified female” are elected as delegates to represent the Assembly District they are registered in.
Delegates’ term begins at the April 2021 Convention and ends in early 2023. These delegates, among other party responsibilities, will have a vote in the CDP endorsement process for the 2022 cycle.

As a response to the pandemic, the 2021 ADEM elections will be conducted entirely by mail. There will be no in-person meetings as in past years.
Voters without internet access may call the designated CDP number (916) 442-5707 to request a ballot over the phone. Each voter will be provided a unique ID#, which will be used when completing their ballot. After registering, voters will be sent a ballot (late December or early January) with a postage-paid remittance envelope.
The deadline to request a ballot is January 11, 2021. You must mail back the ballot to CDP by January 20, 2021. Ballots must be mailed back. They cannot be scanned, emailed, faxed etc.
On January 28, 2021, ballots will be opened, and winners will be announced once all votes are counted. All ballots will be counted using a scantron machine, by a third-party vendor under supervision by the CDP, and the results will be certified by staff in the beginning of February. Once the final ballot tally is reported the staff will promptly post the final results on the CDP website. Scans of the ballots will be posted on the CDP website as well.
An Executive Board Representative attends additional meetings, such the quarterly Executive Board meetings. Unlike past years, there will not be a separate vote for the Assembly District Executive Board Representative, as it will be determined by the highest vote getter of the candidates who also ran for Executive Board.

If a person does not have the ability to request a vote-by-mail ballot online, they can request a ballot by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the Sacramento CADEM HQ at (916) 442-5707. But please remember, you must request a vote-by-mail application by Monday, January 11, 2021 at 11:59 pm pst, and mail the ballot back to the CDP by January 20, 2021.
